    Stream of Consciousness Tuesday

    Source

    • I'm thinking that the first week of September must be the best week of the year.  The days are just hot enough, but the nights are cool.  Everything is still green but you can see that the colors are just waiting to burst forth.
    • Why does it have to be followed by winter?  Stupid, stupid winter.
    • But it's time to start thinking about setting soup to simmer all day in the crock pot.  Yum.
    • I need new soup recipes for the crock-pot.  Got any favorites to share?
    • We had a water pipe break at school on Friday and water was pouring into a classroom and the hallway.  They had to sound the fire alarm and we evacuated the building for 30 minutes.  Sicko that I am, I thought it was fun - I loved the excitement and break in routine.  There is something wrong with me psychologically.
    • I knew that already.
    • We had a great weekend at the lake with my parents and my sister and her family.  I did not take a single picture.  I just wasn't in the mood.  Now I'm kicking myself.
    • Someday I want a house on the water.  It doesn't really matter what kind of water - even a pond will do.  It's just so restful and beautiful.
    • Reagan's first volleyball game of the season is tomorrow and Faith's dance classes start Thursday which means I have to kick it into high gear as a sports parent as we also try to fit in Hayden's Tae Kwon Do, Faith's soccer and getting horseback riding in.
    • I was not meant to be a sports parent.  I have sports ADD and low tolerance for noisy gyms or outside games when the temperature is anything other than warm and sunny.
    • But I love my kids and want them to be able to pursue their interests and so I do these things.
    • 9 times out of 10 I have fun in spite of myself.
    • Having kids makes you stretch and grow.  That's a good thing.
    • My rear end is also stretching and growing.  That's a bad thing.
    • I don't care.  I want cake anyway.
    • I'll have to care soon.  I'm back in my fat pants.
    • But they aren't tight yet!  I still have a few pieces of pie left in my future!
    • My kids asked me what super power I would pick.  I said, "Super Metabolism".  What kind of costume do you think would go with that?
    • After Super Metabolism I would go with Aqua Man's powers.
    • Because I've always wanted to be a mermaid.
    • Wearing sea shells as a bra looks mighty uncomfortable though.
    • How is your week going?

I'm with you - a house on the water would be lovely. Which is funny to me since I don't actually like the water. I find it frightening, if you must know. But my favorite vacation spots are always near the water. Strange, isn't it?

ps - can there be more than one person with Super Metabolism power? If so, sign me up! I'm still in my maternity pants (I refuse to buy new ones until I lose the weight) and I gave birth seven months ago tomorrow. So just think - it could always be worse. :)

Tabitha I would be happy to share my super powers with you. Together we could rid the world of cupcakes!

Our retirement house will definitely be on the water. I'd love for it to happen sooner but right now I don't see it.

I think super metabolism girl would wear skinny jeans and cute tops where her arms show and don't jiggle because she can.

I have a yummy tortilla soup recipe and a yummy potato leek recipe. I'll send you the recipes when I have a minute...the potato leek is on my blog here:
    http://joyce-fromthissideofthepond.blogspot.com/2009/02/you-say-potato-i-say-potahto.html

I don't do it in the crock pot but its easy anyway.

September is my favorite month for weather! Have a nice week!

My favorite crockpot food? Whitebeans for whitebeans and cornbread. Yet another non-vegetarian dish. Starting to reconsider this...

Can't find the "recipe" I use, but close enough: http://www.grouprecipes.com/14387/southern-style-white-beans.html

Just ditch the salt (you don't need it w/ the ham hock), and let it go in the slow cooker all day. Oh, and I use dried beans, and a lot of water.

Joyce - I'm all set for tortilla soup, but I'll take a look at that potato recipe.

Katy - My older two children are strongly opposed to beans. Don't you feel sorry for me?

I love fall cooking, too. I have a great recipe for fish chowder in the crock pot.
We play the super power game a lot but I have never thought of Super Metabolism. That is the BEST power ever! I actually had it for years 1-29, when I didn't need it or appreciate it. It might as well be gone forever at the rate I try to get it back. Stretch and grow is the new theme song.

I too, would love crock pot recipes for winter. I haven't had winter in so long I'm actually looking forward to it. (ask me in January) I want to be super skinny metabolism girl too!!! All my jeans are fat jeans now and I finally donated the size 6s today. :::sigh::: Forty something sucks.
I so want to live on the water now that I've had Hawaii and now Newport. I absolutely love it.
You only loved the excitement of the water line break because you didn't have to clean it up.
    Have a great week!!

MJ - why oh why didn't we appreciate metabolisms when we had them? I remember thinking I was fat back then. A -hahahaha!

Paula - I have some crock pot recipes In The Fridge to get you started, but I definitely need to add to the collection. I'm so jealous of your postings!

I don't think all mermaids wear shells for bras, don't most go topless?

I'm just thinking??? And I'm in a terrible mood too.

Do you have Blogger ADD?? That post was all over the place!! I still enjoyed it. :-)
And I have a soup recipe. It's cheating though...all you do is open up packages and warm it up. oh wait- you had to add potatoes. I will tell you it tomorrow. It will give me an excuse to stop and chat!

One of the best ever. This post, that is.
Here is something funny...I could have written a frightening amount of that. :)
    Especially this:
    # I was not meant to be a sports parent. I have sports ADD and low tolerance for noisy gyms or outside games when the temperature is anything other than warm and sunny.
    # But I love my kids and want them to be able to pursue their interests and so I do these things.
    # 9 times out of 10 I have fun in spite of myself.
    # Having kids makes you stretch and grow. That's a good thing.
    # My rear end is also stretching and growing. That's a bad thing.
    # I don't care. I want cake anyway.
    # I'll have to care soon. I'm back in my fat pants.
    # But they aren't tight yet! I still have a few pieces of pie left in my future!
    # My kids asked me what super power I would pick. I said, "Super Metabolism". What kind of costume do you think would go with that?

That last question is tricky...it could be a bikini, with a cape, of course, but it could also be skinny jeans with a peasant top, because you could wear it and no one would think you were pregnant. And either way, in the left hand there would be a brownie (or since it's your superpower, whatever floats your boat). Why the left? I don't know.

hmmm. . .. for the costume.

I'm thinking "skinny b*tch meets Jackie O. Something along the lines of a Little Black Dress with a logo on the front done tastefully in pearls. Accessorize with a snazzy belt, and cute little kid gloves, matching cape, harlequin mask, and superhero boots.

I may be a sicko too. I like a little chaos to break up the day : )

I was at my mom's house the other day, looking through her kitchen, trying to find her mixer attachments so I could steal them, when I came across a crock-pot.

    I hadn't know she had a crock-pot.

But now that I do, I'm going to have to steal it too, and make some of your delicious sounding recipes!
