Getting Back In The Swing Of Things

Our time at the Fair is over.  Thank the Lord we got to leave before the heat wave hit.  The thermometer hovered around 100 yesterday and the heat index was 113.

    113.

I'll take hot weather over cold any day but even I find temps like that completely ridiculous.

Jamboree was happy to go home.  See how she grinned as we loaded her into the trailer?

It is the last full week of vacation.  I go back to work on Friday and the kids start next week.  Thus, this morning I began Operation Re-set The Internal Clocks.

We have all been staying up late and sleeping in in the morning which is all good during summer but will result in children whose personalities resemble wet cats next week if I don't make them adjust now.

This morning I set my alarm for 7:30 - 90 minutes later than I will get up next week but still a struggle.  Then I went and opened the kids' doors and flipped on the lights.

I heard slight moans and then nothing.

Rich walked down the hall about 10 minutes later and banged on doors and roused their slothful bodies.  The girls stumbled down the stairs and ended up here.

Don't let Faith fool you.  She is awake.  She's just living in denial and hoping I'll go away.

    I will not go away.

I let this go on for about 10 more minutes before I started threatening added chores for every minute they laid there.  That got them up.  Grudgingly and with much moaning and groaning, but they got up.

But where was Hayden through all of this?

    Trying to get himself killed.

ADHD boy bounced out of bed and bounced down the stairs and then bounced around the kitchen - loudly exclaiming and laughing at his sisters and offering up advice on how to get them up.

    Loudly.

    With much bouncing.

The boy does not have an ounce of self-preservation in him.

Who else is preparing for Back To School? (And if you're not, I am jealous.)

What are you doing to get ready?

Mindee -you could tell them they could get up when my husband does....at 2:30 a.m. to get to work by 4 a.m.....for a twelve hour shift. :-p I bet they would complain a little less then!

Well, in Spain schools start in mid September.
But our summer vacation begins around June 20th (school-high school) or in mid July (university).
However, I haven't had any summer vacation this year, because I finished my Master's on 30th June and I started work on 5th July. Boo.
November come soon! I need to have some rest in our honey moon!

I go back to work tomorrow! This weekend we attempted getting back into the swing of things. We started with an earlier bed time, and this morning attempted getting the kids up earlier....now I would have to get up to do that! Tomorrow reality will set in and I will have cranky kids at 6:45 in the morning. At least you have a few more days to get them back into the swing!

UGH - you have reminded me that my mom used to insist I start getting up early the week before school. And I always thought it was terribly unfair. I mean, I'd have to get up soon anyway, why, oh why, would you take away my last week of sleep freedom?

    Clearly she was a dictator.

Two reasons I would not have enjoyed growing up wherever you live
    1. Temperatures above 100 are insane, you do not leave air conditioning when it's that bad
    2. School in Ontario never started before Labor Day.

Good luck adapting to the school year schedule again.

I go back to work on Thursday for our beginning of the year inservice. I am pretty much living in denial about that fact. I know it will smack me in the face and I will be dog tired. I guess I will catch up on my rest next weekend. I will slowly get back o my school schedule.

My boy doesn't start back to school until 2 September. I may lose my mind before then. Nick started his orientation today so I'm home alone with the kid. He is 15, has never lived with us during the school year and has terrible habits on staying up very late playing video games. I'm letting Nick take the lead on this one because I don't want to be the wicked step-mother. However, if it doesn't go smoothly the first week of school, I will step in.
He has so many bad habits to break that I feel that I must ease into it.

I remember those days. The "practice" week before school started. It never really worked out to well for me. I hope you and your kids fare better than I did.

    Love the horse photo.

School? I have been coming in for a few hours each day and working on my classroom and getting things ready. I think that I will have to try to get some fun in, too before the year officially starts.

We dont go back until the 23rd so I dont have to prepare for another week or so. Im looking forward to school starting because I'll be able to have a quiet home to myself during the day, but at the same time I dread waking up early. Dread. And our school district decided to start and end school early this year so that means I have to have the kids to school by 7:50 am...which interprets to I better have them out the door by 7:20 am. Ugh.

Wet cat personalities, yes! That was a perfect description. I like the routine when school starts but getting there will be such a battle! I cringe. Someone ought to come up with a name for that period of time where you pay for the fun you had. After a trip away, with all the laundry, for example. Paying the Piper, is that what that means?

I am having a hard time adjust too. Ugh! Why can't we start school after Labor Day? I think that is fair.

We started school today, luckily I just have a kindergartener, who goes in the afternoon (PHEW!), so all we have done is make sure the boy gets to bed on time. No more late nights playing outside until the sun sets. I am not a morning person and really dread next year :o)

Well, since being at work tends to make me need wine in the evening, I am getting ready by drinking wine! Need to build the tolerance back up before the school year begins!

Go Hayden, go!!! What a guy!!!! At least he wakes up and is happy!!!! LOL!!!! Hugs to all!!! Ardee-ann

OH, fun times! Is it just me, or is Hayden looking totally grown up in that picture?

I'm not getting ready for going back to school because I never got any time off! I would totally take the pain of having to adjust my interanl clock over working all sitnkin' summer. Though, it did keep me indoors the majority of the 100+ degree temps, so there's that.
