Pick One - County Fair Edition
Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at 5:00AM
(I know: The dates say the Fair starts on the 5th and yet I'm spending all day there today. That's because dressage is not so much a popular spectator sport so they get that done before the actual fair starts. Which would be fine except that means no Funnel Cakes today. Pity me.)
Let's say that YOU are a 4-Her. You can enter only one thing in the fair.
What's it going to be?
An animal? You can choose a dog, cat, pig, cow, goat, llama, alpaca, sheep, poultry, rabbit or horse.
Maybe you'd like to show off your creative skills. You can enter photography, sewing, or quilt making.
Perhaps you have a green thumb. Do you want to show off your prized vegetables or flowers?
I think I'd pick something from the baked goods categories and enter a cake, pie or cookie. In an especially productive year I may even have some canned jam worthy of judging in the preserved foods competition.
Actually, "Pick One" may be too limiting for our imaginary fair. I'll tell you what: you can pick TWO.
What can I say? I'm feeling generous.
So put on your best dark denim jeans with plain pockets and your white 4-H tee shirt and bring it on.
What are you going to enter?
Pick One Two.

1)Squeezable Baby Bunny
2)Photograph
Kiki would enter the horse she always wanted and a drawing of the horse she always wanted.
The since I enjoy photography, I would probably submit a photo… that, or simply submit myself. What category would I need to enter myself into for judging? It's all about the blue ribbon, baby!
I'd go with entering a pie since i've never actually made a real one, just the frozen kind out of the box. That seems to make sense to me.
Well, I'll limit myself to where I have at least a little talent: quilting and cake baking.
1.) A picture of course...
2.) A pig. I used to show pigs when I was in JH and I loved it. Mostly because we always had lots of fresh bacon afterwards. :)

1. a photgragh. I don't do much photography myself, but my hubby does and he would never enter one on his on so I would have to do it for him. :)
2. a horse. I don't have one, but would love to. They are beautiful animals.
Have fun at the fair!
I'd enter a picture of my dog, Carley. She's a picture perfect, exceptionally photogenic yellow labrador retriever. She, however, is not an exceptionally well-behaved dog due to her, shall we say, "extreme enthusiasm", therefore, she, herself, shall not be entered. haha She sure is a looker though!
After putting in my 10 years, I've found that I miss 4H. What I'd give for one more hectic spring (getting all those darned projects finished) and super fun 4H week. I'd have to go back and do my two favorite projects: sewing and pigs.
Thanks for the stroll down memory lane!
I would pick my crafy skills of crocheting and also some baking (would love to actually be able to make candles though but I keep failing at that skill)
I would enter Gerald, my groundhog.
And if he was disqualified I'd cry foul and sue the entire state.
What state to do live in again?
'Cause no groundhog should have to put up with that kind of discrimination.
This is America, after all.
Is there Mini-van Maneuvering catagory - because I would TOTALLY rock at that!
or
how about a Haiku catagory....i feel some inspiration.........
Blazing, baking sun
Funnel cakes, twinkies on sticks
Lets go to the fair
Well, obviously I would bake a pie.
Duh.
photography and a horse. If I had one, of course!
My one and only entry would be in photography. Quilt or sew? My grandma would laugh at that (she has tried since the beginning of my existence to teach me, but alas, I have so-so interest and very little patience.). Also baking? Sadly what I bake the most are box recipes (I know, shame on me). Hope you're both having fun!
My ferret!
He's a great pet and can do several tricks!
And also a picture!
Anything sewing or crafts . . ..
I'd like to do crochet or knitting, but I get really, REALLY frustrated when I am creating something one line at a time. How on earth did pioneer women do anything but knit and crochet? I personally think that kids ran around naked until they were sent to school because it took mothers that long to sew and knit their clothes.
Sheesh.
