What Do You Think?
Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at 6:00AM If you can arrange it, try to have a devastating hail storm every 15-20 years directly over your house. That's what we did in June and thus we got our roof totaled and insurance paid for a brand new roof which was installed this week.
It sure beats replacing a roof out of pocket.
This picture from my Knock Knock page shows a bit of the old roof:
Boy my flowers looked good that spring.
As you can see, our siding is Blah Beige. Sadly, the siding is in great shape and will not be replaced any time soon. Topping off the beige is white trim. Inoffensive, yet uninspired but since we can't paint our trim ourselves (3 1/2 story drop in one spot - yikes!) and it costs a lot extra when the people you hire change the color, the white is staying too.
So to add a little color we went with the green roof.

While the green may not be everyone's cup of tea, I'm liking it!
The issue I need resolved is the matter of the valley liners on the roof. When the sales guy was here, we decided on copper. We like copper and in our heads it was very pretty.
Kind of London-y. Possibly San Francisco-ish.
On my roof though . . . Well, what do you think?

I'm finding it to be veeeeeerrry orange. When the sun hits it, it's shiny orange.
So is that a good thing or a bad thing?
Is it going to grow on me? Maybe it's just the shock of the change?
If it were real copper I would be excited about it turning a lovely shade of verdigris, but real copper is pricey so this is just copper colored.
If I decide I don't like it, it's just a matter of some spray paint to fix it.
Opinions?

Hmmm... it's a little orange for me but I think only because it makes it stand out so much from the rest of the roof. Pretty cool that you got a new roof, btw, I sure wouldn't mind that considering we have to have our gutters redone soon for the grand price of $2,500!
I like it!
I like it but I can see why it will take some getting used to. I need a good hail storm coming my way so I can get a new roof!
First off, your flowers look awesome!
Secondly, I think I like it... but I might be like you. It looks pretty orange.

Very different, but not in a bad way. I'd say give it through the winter and re-evaluate in spring before making any changes. I'm a "I have to see it in person" viewer so I guess I'm obligated to so driving around the north end of town looking for copper and green roof to judge for myself. (Don't freak when the red minivan circles the drive later this week . . . .)
And I'm with you on the beauty of verdigris, too!
LOVE the green!! I like that you guys chose that. The orange/copper is a little different though... not sure how I feel about it either!
I'm a fan of the copper, it goes well with your brick. Very nice. I love your entrance. I want a wall covered in Greenery.
LOVE the green. I am with the Katie B and say give it a winter and spring. Even though it is not "real" copper (ahhh verdigris) I do think it will "tone down" some. It is a great contrast to the green and compliments the brick beautifully.
Go Vols! : )
Okay, kidding...its hard to tell from a photo because the color is probably not exact. I am a big fan of copper though so maybe live with it thru a season or four and you can always spray paint later...does it turn the greenish shade copper turns?
It its real copper it will patina over time and turn greenish like your roof. Give it some time to patina.
The green is awesome. Really changes the appearance; flattering! Good job. And the copper - don't zoom in on it. Look at it in the picture of the whole house. It looks wonderful and classy. As they say on HDTV, "adds a POP!" I wouldn't change a thing.
Y'all are making Rich very happy this morning. His vote is to keep the copper. And for those who asked - no, it is not real copper so while it may lose it's shine a bit, it will not change color.
I like it as well. I see you have some lights on the front of your garage, you could always spray those's the same color & ad a bit more of a pop of that same color. Of course that would be more work & that may not make your husband a big fan of my comment.
I'd need to see it in person to see if it's in the same color family as the brick. Putting that color one or two other places may round it out as well. Like a necklace needs a bracelet? Gee, I wish my house were as pretty as your house!
i am so incredibly impressed. what happened to you saying you are practical and boring? a girl with a green and copper roof is a "live on the edge" kind of girl! i was just wondering if your roof was done. i will have to drive by to check it out to know for sure. i LOVE that you added color that way and took a risk. we went with a plain brown, but i do like the change it made to the house. never noticed roofs in my life before, but i do now!
Go with the copper. Maybe it's brightness will illicit some other natural disaster and get you some new siding, or something. :)

I'd keep it...original and unique looking.
Live the green roof! It's really nice. I'm with you and not sure about the copper color, but you should give it some time to see if it grows on you!
I, too, say give it some time. It's different and unexpected.
Michaela would love it! :) Orange is her favorite color.
I even freak out when my hair is a bit different after going to the stylist. Give it a little time.
Isn't there something you can buy to treat things to MAKE them patina? If that's an option maybe you can try that after winter/spring if it still bothers you.
Love the green. You go girl!
