    Birthday Blues

This morning I woke up and was the mother of two teenagers.

    Two.

    Teenagers.

    In my house.

    At the same time.

For the next 3 1/2 years.

The last time I lived with two teenagers I was a teenager.

Thirteen years ago today I ended the longest two months of my life.  I had been on bed rest since New Year's day trying not to go into early labor while also trying to take care of my one year old and the house.  Oh - and taking that awful medication that makes your heart race like you're running a marathon.  Two whole months of timing contractions and worrying and doctor visits - and it ended in a C-section because the baby was breech and wouldn't turn.

Which means that I have a scar.

And this is the thanks I get.  He's gone and grown up and is now a teenager at the same time as his sister.

    Children are thankless creatures.

My two girls are completely unsymathetic about the stretch marks that they gave me.

And I thank the stars everynight that I haven't ever been on bed rest and that I never will. Especially with young children.

Oh, I was thinking just recently that I wish about ten years would scoot on by (I know, isn't that awful?) and then thought to myself,"Right, because a 19 year old, a 17 year old, and a 12 year old are going to be so much easier." Ha!
    Happy Birthday, Hayden.
And, well, how could it not be about you, Mindee?! If it weren't for YOU he wouldn't be here!

P.S. I suppose there is someone else in your house who had something to do with it, too, but surely you bore the brunt of it, no? :)

My mama didn't have babies (I'm adopted) and I didn't know a thing about being pregnant or stretchmarks or sneezing and peeing or sneezing and pulling unknown ligaments so hard it makes you cry.

    Nope. Didn't know.

I do, however, remember being a teenager.

Oh lord have mercy on my soul.
