    Blog Roll Question

Over there in the right column under "Place To Go, People To See" is what is traditionally known as a blog roll.  I was going to update mine today, but started to wonder:  Does anyone use this?

I have, and do, visit all the blogs on it - some more often than others because not all of the authors post regularly.  A couple of them haven't posted in a loooooong time but I hesitate to take them down because I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings.

Then there are the blogs that I do read regularly who aren't on my roll because I'm lazy and rarely update it.  But again, am I hurting the feelings of those bloggers because I don't have them listed?

    Guilt.  It's what's for dinner.

It makes me inclined to just scrap it so that I can offend everyone equally, but what if readers actually use it and I am eliminating vital links to a needy populace.

You can see the moral quandry I'm having.  Also? My need to get a life.

So help me decide by answering this one question:

Do you use my blog roll?

    Thank you.

I have to say, I do use blog rolls. And I get a lot of traffic from other people's blog rolls on my own blog. However, I agree that keeping up with them can be tough. I have been thinking a lot about this since I am putting together a new site for my blog. I am wondering if it is somehow better to have a separate page/tab for a blog roll...?

Clearly this post is of now help to you. Sorry!

I don't use the blog roll regularly on anyone's blog. I tend to find blogs based on comments. If someone is regularly witty and funny in their comments to a blog I read then I'll visit (that's how I found your blog).

Just my 2 cents. Happy Sunday!!

I don't use them. Most of the time if I find somebody I really like, I bookmark them. Or, I read alot of other peoples comments on my favorite blogs and if I think they say something funny or interesting, I'll click on over to them. OR if my blogs feature certain people, then I'll go over! :)

I occasionally use people's blog rolls. If I have some free time, I"ll click on random blogs and check them out. That's how I found yours, by clicking on Katie's blog roll from Confession of a Young Married Couple. Funny people lead to other funny people! :)

I check them from time to time, if the blog name sounds interesting. I like the blog rolls that have the title of the most recent post under them, and even better if they say when the blogger last posted. I don't tend to click on a blog if it hasn't been updated in a really long time... I like to read active blogs:o)

    From time to time.

My blogroll is how I keep up with the blogs I like to read. When the blog owner posts a new post, the blog link hops to the top of the roll, which lets me know there's a new post that needs my attention ;) I do follow blogs, but I don't use that feature at all to read other blogs. If I find a new blog I want to read again tomorrow and the next day and the day after that, I do update my blogroll :)

Yes, I am anal, and yes, I'm weird :) and yes, I'm addicted to blog reading :)

Oh, yeah, and I do click on the links of other bloggers blog rolls...
Whew, that sentence was kinda like the woodchucking how much wood a woodchuck could chuck tongue twister :)

I do not use the blog roll. I only read a certain select few blogs. I don't have time to read all the recommended blogs so I just don't read anyone's blog roll/suggestions.

I do use blog rolls to find new and exciting blogs to read. If you take me off I will not be offended since I hardly ever write anymore.

I use blog rolls all the time because I like to see who other people are reading. Most of the blogs I follow are because I found them through another blog.

With that said, I usually update mine quite a bit. If people aren't posting in a month or more I just make sure I have them bookmarked so I can find them again, then I take them off the roll. If they aren't posting then there's nothing to read and I think that's kind of the point. But maybe that's just me.

Honestly, once in a blue moon I go on a blog roll to find new blogs, but it is very very rarely.

I was in the same pickle as you when we redesigned our website. My blog roll was outdated and I started to feel bad that I wasn't listing more blogs, but then I felt weird about taking any of them down. It's a blog etiquette thing I just didn't know how to handle. When I redid my site, I decided to lose the blog roll, one less thing to keep up with. But I've had lots of people email me about putting it back up. So, I don't know. Personally, I don't use them, but apparently lots of people do.

    What's a blogger to do?!?!

    November 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterKatie

I keep mine updated because that's how I read my favs. Once the blog is updated, it jumps to the top of my blog roll. Once in a while I take one off. I figure that person never looks at my blog anyway and they won't even know. Sometimes I look at someone else's blog roll, but mostly, I click on witty comments, like everyone else here. OR I click on someone highlighted in another blog.
    Good luck with your decision!

I have used your blog roll once or twice.

Did you know that mine updates itself? I look at it to see who has posted last. The roll moves, so the names at the bottom of my list haven't posted probably in the last six months to a year. Okay, now that I just typed all of that, I see that Paula just said the same thing.

I take note of blog rolls on blogs I read and I've found some I love this way. I keep ten on my sidebar and they are the most recently updated. That way, if someone doesn't post for a while they don't show up there
