Taking The Easy Way Out
Thursday, October 7, 2010 at 11:03AM I have absolutely nothing to blog about today. Well, nothing I am permitted to blog about. Lucky for my, Paula at Queen Of My Castle tagged me in of those blog chain thingys. Normally I don't participate in these ("Every party needs a pooper that's why we invited you! Party Pooper! Party Pooper!" - Is that a real song or just something my dad made up to torture us with?) but today I'm jumping right in. I'm supposed to answer eight questions. None of them ask my current weight so I'm game.
1. If you could go back and start all over at the age of 21, would you? Why or why not? Hmmmmm, I might. I'd do most things the same but I really enjoyed my 20s and 30s so I wouldn't mind doing them again with a few corrections.
2. What would be the perfect pet for you? I'm a cat person. They are self-sufficient, quiet and clean and they sit on my chest an purr while I'm napping. That's not so much fun with a dog.
3. If you were a car, what kind would you be? I have no idea. I'd like to name something cute and tiny but that's not realistic and I refuse to name anything big or bulky.
4. What is in the floor of your closet? Well, somewhere under there is carpet I would imagine but I don't know for sure as I just step on piles of clothes that are headed for Goodwill and Rich's shoes.
5. If you had the chance to do anything you wanted for a living, what would it be? Columnist for a travel publication writing reviews for high end beach resorts.
6. If you had the chance to spend one day with someone who is gone from your life, how would you spend it? Well, she's not dead so I don't know if this counts but she is gone from my life so I'll say my sister. I'd spend it going to fun restaurants and just hanging out.
7. Describe yourself in 200 words or less. Um . . . I don't even know where to start. The first thing that popped into my head was "middle aged" which I did not enjoy AT ALL and so now I am inclined to skip this entire question.
8. What is your favorite holiday? How would you spend it if you could have your way? Thanksgiving - it's all about the food. I'd have my dead grandma fix all the food except the pie. Pie was not really her specialty and I like to make those. Then I would eat. And eat and eat and eat. And never get full or have to watch a football game. Then I would take a nap while the dishes and kitchen magically cleaned themselves.
At this point I am supposed to tag eight people, but many of my favorite commenters don't have blogs so instead I am tagging all of YOU.
That's right, if you're reading, you are tagged. Just pick any one of these questions and answer in the comments section. I suppose if you have a blog, and you prefer, you may answer there but then we have to work to see your answers.
I'm not so much a fan of work myself.
So . . . TAG! You're it!

If you had the chance to spend one day with someone who is gone from your life, how would you spend it?
I love this question, because I don't even have to think about the answer. I'd spend it with my mom's dad who died a few months after I got married. I love the man so much and I just know he would have adored my kiddos, especially the youngest because she's so onery. He always had a twinkle in his eyes when he was with my brother and I as kids, so I know he'd have been the same with my kids. He would have proudly proclaimed them to beautiful and he would have many belly laughs with them. To hear those words and that laugh would make my heart so happy.
I will also answer the question re spending the day with someone gone. I would
pick my mother who died at age 63 and we would spend the day talking about how all
of the kids and grands are doing, we would eat a fabulous lunch and laugh a lot. We
missed so much time through her long illness that we didn't get to connect.
Mom
Oh. I'm so overwhelmed. The only thing I can tell you is that the bottom of my closet is a carpet made out of cat hair.
I liked your mom's comment. :)
Just admit it. You want to be a Suburban.
Christmas is my favorite holiday! Everything is pretty and warm and cozy and there are cookies and food and lights and presents and old wonderful movies on tv and family and friends, etc, etc, etc. I suppose I should have said the "Christian Thing" which is that it is about Jesus, which is true, but that is not the only reason I love it. Let's pretend I said that, though.
1. If you could go back and start all over at the age of 21, would you? Why or why not? Yes…but don’t tell my husband =o)
2. What would be the perfect pet for you? A rock!
3. If you were a car, what kind would you be? VW Bug…how else will I get people to fight over me?
4. What is in the floor of your closet? Smelly shoes…
5. If you had the chance to do anything you wanted for a living, what would it be? Sleep specialist!!!
6. If you had the chance to spend one day with someone who is gone from your life, how would you spend it? My dad…so much was left unsaid when he died and I would love the chance to SHOW HIM how much I loved him.
7. Describe yourself in 200 words or less. Tired!
8. What is your favorite holiday? How would you spend it if you could have your way? Thanksgiving…one of only two times a year that my entire family gathers and this one involves food and not the stress/pressure of gifts. My ideal Thanksgiving would be catered by Martha Stewart ;-)
shoot...I should have said I would be a Smart Car but I wasn't smart enough to think of it until after I hit submit!
your answer to question #6 made me sigh.
i couldn't choose just one person to spend the day with, it would have to be both of my parents.
#6 makes me sad...
#6 - would have to be my grandparents (all 4 of them), and since it's only one day they would have to sit there with a dvd recorder each and tell me their entire life stories, since I was too bratty when they were alive to be bothered listening (and I was an adult *shameful*). This would have to be one of my biggest regrets, so YES I would go back and be 21 again (if I had my current mind that is, not my 21 year old self).
We all have days like that - where there is just nothing to say. Glad that you found some things to say anyway. :)
Sandy - you make me laugh!
missy and Laura - me too.
Micha - welcome and I love your answer.
Tabitha - :)
I love Micha's answer and it's pretty much what I would say about my grandfather. Capturing on video the positive attitude that man had about how successful his life had been despite never having had much money, or a real career. He was a man who loved his family and was happy with what he had. I would love to have a video of him so I could always remember that lesson when I'm feeling badly for myself.
I know that I would be a Ford Taurus. They are as common as noses and ultimately reliable until they become undependable. People sneer a little when they see you have one and owners of them have a calm acceptance that they are what they are.
And the fact that you seem to see them every where and that you always see someone in a mall parking lot walk up to the wrong one thinking its theirs until they can't unlock it is a perfect metaphor for me being a twin.
Oh, and I asked your husband as he passed my desk what kind of car you were and he told me that you would want to be a pickup because you love them so much, but to him you already are a Lambourghini.
(You guys are so sweet that I get cavities just talking to y'all)
What is your favorite holiday? How would you spend it if you could have your way?: Christmas. I would have the time and ability to make awesome gifts for all my family members. With the exception of two or three people, everyone in my and my hubly's familes would be there. We would all contribute food and we would play board games and talk and laugh and there wouldn't be anything on the table me or my kids couldn't eat. My kids and hubby and I would receive thoughtful, meaningful gifts and nothing would be made of plastic!
my dad sand (and still does sing) the party pooper song to me. Haha!
If I had the chance to write something it would be tales of my life as a professional rodeo queen. Though I suppose first I should become a rodeo queen. Or at least attend a rodeo. Or figure out what a rodeo queen is.
1. Sure I would go back - it's been almost 6 years since then, and they've been the best years of my life thus far!
2. Yellow lab - my favorite. Although I will never have one again because my husband thinks they are "too normal" and we need something "more original" (!!?!)
3. I'd probably be my current car - infiniti g35s - small, sporty and fun :)
4. My closet has a floor??
5. The answer to this question changes on a daily, sometimes hourly, basis. My husband is looking for a new job and I probably will too in a few months. Neither of us like our jobs but we haven't been working for too long yet so that's not very promising! Oh and we have no idea what we want to do. Other than move to California and own a winery, or live on a sailboat off a remote island...
6. My grandparents. I miss them and they are such a joy.
7. I don't even know where to begin!
8. Christmas. I have an enormous extended family so we all celebrate together on Christmas Eve. Christmas morning is just my immediate family and we open presents and then hang out all day while my mom prepares a big meal for the afternoon. We love movies so we usually end up watching all the new ones we got that day. I love it.
I love surveys! :)
