Myers Family Anniversary Day
Sunday, August 2, 2009 at 8:03PM
It was 1991. They were young and skinny; fresh faced and blonde. Full of hopes and dreams as they cut the cake in the church reception hall.
Poor suckers had no idea what they had just signed up for.
Marriage is tough. Incredibly rewarding when it goes right and downright miserable in the down times. For 18 years now I've been riding this roller coaster with Rich and while there have been some hair pin turns, I'm still loving this ride.
The sermon this morning was on why God hates divorce and it just reinforced why we do what we do. Why we get up each day and choose to love each other and our kids and press on as a team. God planned marriage to be a partnership. He shows us his love through our love or each other.
He also uses marriage to teach us patience and tolerance and how to bend and be less selfish. Darnnit.
We celebrate anniversaries in an unorthodox fashion here. At our house this day is a celebration of our family and the day it began. I cook a "fancy" dinner (marinated flank steak and roasted potatoes with trifle for dessert) and we set the table with a table cloth, china and silverplate. When we sit down to eat we light candles and make the kids use their manners as we tell the story of how we met and fell in love. We go over the tales of when each of them joined our family and we end the evening by looking through our wedding album and watching the video.
Photography sure has improved since 1991.

So have bridesmaids dresses.
So have we.
I love you Rich. Happy anniversary. I'd do it all again in a hearbeat.

LOVE seeing these pictures! Takes me right back to the Mindee I knew in college! I also love seeing how far you have come since those naive, youthful days. I'm proud of you, my friend.
Happy, happy anniversary! I"M SURE GLAD YOU GOT MARRIED and
had those wonderful grandchildren. Dad and I finally got a son and
one that we love and are very proud of! Keep hanging in there -

Happy Anniversary! You look so beautiful!
LOVE those pictures - you look like babies! Congratulations and what a beautiful way to celebrate!
Happy Anniversary! That would have been a great idea for us.... we've spent the last 16 years, fogetting or working on our anniversary. Most importantly, the memories you are building in your kids about your marriage is fantastic. It couldn't be more wonderful.
PS. Only Lisa could make those bridesmaid dresses look good.... she could make anything look good :-)
Congrats! And I'm drooling over the dinner! What a wonderful tradition and a great way to make sure that your wedding photos get some air every now and then.
And there's nothing quite like a good pair of "Dye-to-Match" shoes. *sigh*
Aww love the pictures!! I can't believe how much Reagan looks like you!! Love your familly tradition, I think we might need to steal that idea.
I like the anniversary celebration. Marriage is tough and incredibly rewarding. Congrats on 18 years of commitment and family.
I love the wedding dress.
Congrats! I can't help but think that Rich looks a little like Patrick Swayze in that picture. LOL Really he does.
Tracey, after I looked at the picture, I agree with you! But then I
married my sweetheart husband because he looked like Paul
Newman - and still does. An older Paul, of course.
