    A Discussion of Christmas Music

Reagan has The Christmas Shoes stuck in her head this morning.  I told her to keep it there - I don't want it in mine.  It just might top my list of my least favorite Holiday Songs.  A list which would also include Santa Baby.

On the other hand, my current favorite is Destiny's Child singing Opera of the Bells.  And of course, The Twelve Days of Christmas as done by Straight No Chaser.

My all time favorite though?  O Holy Night.  Sung by my daddy.

    How about y'all?  Favorites?  Stinkers?

Nearly anything done by Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Johnny Mathis.

Yes! My favorite is the exact same as your favorite. Exactly. :)

Rich - but you like it best when I sing, right?

Christina - you like it when my dad sings O Holy Night too? ;)

santa baby makes me want to hurl. and i've always hated any version of the little drummer boy. "pa rum pum pum pum" doesn't qualify as good lyrics to me. the christmas waltz (harry connick or mws) makes me so happy. also love bruce springsteen's "santa claus is coming to town" and all the carpenter's christmas songs. i'm cheesy, i know. but my very favorite..."welcome to our world" by chris rice.sorry that was long, but you asked.

    *sigh*
I love Christmas music but I'm pretty picky about which versions I prefer to hear.

Straight no Chaser tops my favorites at the moment, just because I'm a big Toto fan and when they sing the last part to the tune of Toto's Africa, I turn into a screaming teenage girl. A close second is Elvis singing "Blue Christmas" my husband still curls up into fetal position when my entire family sings 'elvis style' whenever we hear it.

I'm with Rich on the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, but I have to admit that I love Santa Baby ONLY when sung by Eartha Kitt in that sex kitten purr of hers. She was amazing.

And just to complete the humiliation, I love the Bing Crosby/ David Bowie version of little drummer boy. I'm so lame.

Missy - I LOVE The Carpenters. One of my favorite groups to sing along too.

KB - Isn't that SNC song just the most clever thing ever? And doing things that make husbands die of embarrassment is fun!

My favorite Christmas song since I was kid is Jose Feliciano's Feliz Navidad. Am I the weirdest person you have ever met or what? My kids think I am, but when it comes on the radio every year, they alert me so I can sing along while they laugh at their strange mother. :)
I also love How Many Kings by Downhere and A Strange Way to Save the World by 4Him.

Really dislike little drummer boy and Santa baby. Also grandma got run over by a reindeer. Uhg.
Love love love Sleighride! OH, and O Come O Come Emmanuel, and The Christmas song. :)

Sleigh Ride and O Holy Night are my favorites, but I LOVE the 12 Days of Christmas by the Muppets - maybe my all-time fave!

I also love The Blenders' Christmas CDs! And good old Mr. Harry Connick, Jr. :)

Tracey - I like that one too. It's oh so 70's!

Tamara - I'm a cheeseball - I like the Drummer Boy song. Jars of Clay has my favorite version. Oh Come Oh Come Emmanuel is beautiful.

Erin - I'm going to have to go look up the Muppet song. Sounds like something the kids would enjoy.

Oh Holy Night is one of my favorites, too, but I can't hit the high note (yeah, like I can sing anyway!) Another favorite is What Child Is This?

    hahahahahahahahaha
thank you for making me laugh!!
I did happen to mean my own dad...he sang in our wedding, too. I like to hear him sing.
Bare Naked Ladies and Sarah McLachlan have a great version of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, weird, I know. The Little Drummer Boy always makes me cry.

All-time favorite version of Silent Night is by Mark Schultz and Nichole Nordeman. Look it up. It's good. And my family was so lame growing up, that I actually like some of the Mannheim Steamroller christmas stuff.

oh, I feel left out as i have the can't remember who sang the song or its title disorder. Probably why I can never buy a CD! I think I will tell my son your suggestions and he can get them on itunes....yes, that is a good idea. Thanks for the recommendations!

I just saw Straight No Chasers on PBS the other night. Very cool group of guys. I think I could get used to them.

O Holy NIght gets me all choked up, every time. And when someone can sing it...man does it work. Christmas shoes depresses the hell out of me. Wait a minute...don't think I should use the word "hell" in the same context as "Christmas." Dangit...I did it again.
