My Breakfast
Thursday, December 3, 2009 at 6:59AM Listening (or reading) to people talk about their diets is only slightly more tolerable than listening (or reading) to people discuss their medical maladies.
I know this.
I'm doing it anyway because:
a) My life is small. I don't have anything else to discuss this week.
b) I am a tad obsessive. Just a tad.
c) It's not like you're stuck in a car with me here. You can always move along to the next blog. I have several to recommend if you'd like.
d) 5 pounds.
That's right - 5 pounds since Monday. And before anyone mentions "water weight." I know it's water weight. Believe me, I know. I've been peeing like it's my last trimester all week long. I don't care. It's still 5 pounds.
And may I just say that I have given up sugar many, many times before and, though it sounds harder, it is actually easier to give up flour with the sugar. Way fewer cravings, way fewer headaches, much less of the whole low blood sugar feeling.
But figuring out what to eat can be an issue. Here is my breakfast. I can't eat cereal and I don't feel like cooking eggs. Rich has been eating Overnight Oatmeal without sugar and I've been having fruit smoothies. Here's the cast:
1 cup skim milk
1 frozen banana
1 sugar free yogurt
frozen blueberries
Throw them all into a blender.
Blend.
Pour.
Nutritious, delicious and fairly filling. If you're counting calories, either skip the banana or use half.
Thanks for tolerating me. Y'all are very kind. :)

okay, all this talk of dieting, I mean eating healthy, and my big face plastered on the front of our local paper, and the recent opportunities of possibly running into old friends has convinced me to make another go. Why is it that the one thing you, I, want most in life is so stinkin hard?! I've said my cake business is like a alcoholic who tends bar. I'm usually good until PMS strikes and I totally cave. But hey, I'm totally in the middle of PMS right now so maybe its a good time! Just keep talking... its keeping me accountable and convicted.
okay, you are inspiring me, my "tad obsessive" friend. i'm thinking "maybe i can do this". at least for breakfast. so, i'm thinking if you just give me meal ideas then i'll kind of just mimic you and maybe i can drop a few along the way.
That looks good!
I figured out (finally) how to cook eggs quickly and easily in the microwave...
Take one of those restaurant ceramic dip bowls (rather than getting a five finger discount, you can them at walmart) and put an egg in there (sans shell). Put about a tsp or so of water on top and nuke for about 45 seconds. You've got a fried egg in a cup (well, more like poached but who's counting).
Personally I have a bunch of microware that I picked up at a garage sale and I'll make eggs, sausage and chocolate cake in the micro. You better stick to the eggs and sausage though.
Hows that for random.
I'm impressed! Before I got pregnant I used to eat so heathy and I keep trying to back to it, but it's SO hard!!
Cheryl - if I owned a cake company I would weigh 300 pounds.
Missy - the more, the merrier. :)
SUT - Awesome! That's going to be my snack later today.
Holy cow! If I wasn't enjoying my pumpkin spice latte so much right now, I might be inspired to go off flour and sugar! 5 pounds is amazing!
I can start tomorrow, right?
For the record, I'm down two pounds this week with some yoga and drinking Acai Berry juice every morning. Now, if I only I could stop eating party mix...
Tabitha - I'm a big believer in the theory that pregnancy excuses everything. Use it. :)
Erin - if you figure out how to make the latte sugar free (Splenda?) let me know!
1 c Skim Milk
1 pkg sugar free vanilla instant pudding
1 can pumpkin
That is my new snack.
I am liking your breakfast idea. Will definitely try it!
That looks really good. I have some frozen blueberries that I used for a dessert once, and I don't plan to do anything else with them. I'll have to try this.
Impressive!! I have not been doing so well! I'm thinking I won't be too hard on myself, and do what I can, and maybe bump it up after Christmas. I'm trying to practice a little moderation. :) Less than one can of soda a day is much better than 3 or 4 cans, right?! I'm even more determined to nip this thing in the bud, though, since last night I put on a pair of slacks that I've had for years, and which literally hung on my hips because they were too big and now they sit somewhere near my bellybutton and HURT! Oh, that was a wake-up call. I am getting on our bike! I am blowing up the exercise ball! I am going to start doing 500 sit-ups a day!
Wait. Did I mention moderation?
That smoothy looks great! Make one for me! :)
I make those all the time, except I use plain yogurt and add some soy powder to up the nutrition a bit. I love them! They are sooooo healthy and very yummy. :)
Tammy - yum!
Amanda - glad I could help.
Christina - I think cutting back helps. I really do. Good job!
Amy - even you can make a smoothie. :)
Tracey - I forgot about soy powder. I should get some.
Mindee...you're doing it!!! Congrats on the 5 pounds. Who the heck cares if it's water weight?!? It's still WEIGHT! And you know what? That smoothie don't look half bad. Keep up the AWESOME work! =)
